Years ago Elizabeth Elliot encouraged me to make time everyday for a Quiet Time. It was an investment she said; a sowing of seeds. I have thought about this a lot lately. It matters what we invest in! So much of our current news revolves around investment strategies. I like 1 Timothy 6:18 & 19 for my plan.
“[Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous of heart, ready to share [with others], In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed.”
A good work is spending time alone with God. It lays an excellent foundation. Whether it’s a few minutes (or longer) before anyone else gets up or a short devotional before bed, the investment is priceless. Your children see, your husband sees, most importantly God sees you seeking; trying to focus and draw near. Without that God-connection how will we have the strength for a generous heart that’s ready to share with others?
“Thank you Lord, for calling each of us to spend time with You daily. I understand now it lays a sure foundation for the future and makes my heart prepared to take hold of the life that is truly life. I love you, Anna”
